For the past 2 years, I have attended a 2-day seminar on the second weekend of the year to set my goals for the year. We review our last year goals, if not accomplished, revisit if it is still a goal and move forward. This has helped me to get clear on what I want to accomplish and to focus my energy. I started going to these goal setting seminars after several years of feeling like life was happening to me and was out of my control.
The definition of a goal in this instance is the result or achievement toward which effort is directed. Add to this that they must be written and time specific and you get some hefty stuff. But, does every goal need to be that heavy?
It depends on you.
Let’s say that you have decided to take responsibility for your health and you have a doctor appointment for something that is concerning you. You make a goal of understanding everything the doctor says during the appointment. To achieve a goal, you break it down into steps.
Goal: Understand everything the doctor says and have your doctor understand you. What steps will you need to take to accomplish this goal?
1. Prepare
2. Focus
3. Clarify
Each of these steps has steps. To help you to achieve your doctor appointment goals, get a copy of my chapter, How to Have a Successful Doctor Appointment. I had the honor of co-authoring the book Cracking the Code to Sucess with 47 people, including Brian Tracy. All you have to do is subscribe to get the chapter. The book is available on Amazon.
